In Dialogue is an International Symposium that takes place at three sites across the city of Nottingham on the 30th and 31st August supported in kind by Nottingham Contemporary (day 1) & Primary (day 2). In Dialogue will also be hosting an evening of music, performances and open mic opportunities for symposium delegates at Community Hall in Sneinton including a communal meal from Marsha’s Secret Kitchen on the 30th August.

In Dialogue is inviting artists and researchers to interrogate their use dialogue in practice. It encourages experimentation through interaction in the form of presentations, discussions, artwork, performances and workshop participation. In Dialogue will bring together a number of artists, cultural producers and researchers whose work/research explores and examines dialogue in a variety of ways.

The symposium curators of In Dialogue are Heather Connelly, Viviana Checchia and Rhiannon Slade (doctoral researchers from Nottingham Trent and Loughborough University).

Papers/Presentations should be 15mins

The Sites:

Day One:  Nottingham Contemporary , opened in 2009, brings international art to an iconic building in the city centre. Designed by Caruso St John, it is one of the largest and most ambitious contemporary art spaces in the UK

Day Two:  Primary is an artist-led space that exists to support creative research and to develop new ways of engaging audiences. Offering dedicated artists studios alongside more flexible spaces, both within and outside the building, where artists from around the world can meet and work in the heart of Nottingham. PRIMARY is a place where artists and the public can share, experiment and learn about contemporary visual art through an ambitious programme of events and activities.

Evening: St Christophers Church Hall, Sneinton:  Is a traditional community hall close to the city centre, with a small stage and two small rooms off the main hall.  The communal meal will be served by Marsha’s Secret Kitchen. 20  minutes walk from Nottingham Contemporary or a bus ride from the city centre.
